What is Force Majeure leave and when are you entitled to take it?
This legislation gives an employee a limited right to leave from work. Force Majeure Leave arises where, for urgent family reasons, the immediate presence of the employee is imperative owing to an injury or sickness of a close family member.
Please note, force majeure leave does not give any right to leave following the death of a close relative.
Maximum leave is 3 days in any 12-month period or 5 days in a 36 month period.
Employees are entitled to be paid while on force majeure leave. Absence for portion of a day is recorded as a full day.
What is the definition of a close Family member?
