Recognise and Assess the causes and effects of sudden illness and/or injury in a pre-hospital environment and call for emergency medical services. React to such pre-hospital emergencies utilising PHECC CPGs. Respond in a safe, effective, and appropriate manner to such emergencies utilising the First Aid Response skill set and in accordance with PHECC CPGs as part of the pre-hospital continuum of care.

Assessment
A 30-minute, 20 question MCQ written examination. The learners must answer 12 correctly to pass the examination (60%). If a learner does not achieve the 12/20 pass rate in the first attempt, the instructor gives them feedback on the areas where they fell short on and advises them that they have one opportunity to repeat the examination at the next available date. We use an alternative exam paper for repeats.
There are two examination papers; Exam A and B. The use of the exam papers is alternated
Skills Demonstrations
The learners are assessed demonstrating essential first aid skills. These are marked as Pass/Fail. Learners have to pass the skills demonstrations to achieve certification.
Award Procedure
We issue learners who achieve the required pass mark with a joint PHECC/recognised institution First Aid Response card/award certificate. We use the established naming convention provided by PHECC for these awards. Certification lapses after 2 years. A FAR certificate may be used as evidence of successful completion of a CFR course necessary for entry to another recognised course: e.g. CFR instructor (Community only) or EFR. Please download Zoom to your device in advance of training. Learner's assessments are verified in house by Canavan Byrne and externally by an external examiner, inline with PHECC's guidelines. Workplace First Aid (FAR)
Complete your First Aid Response (FAR) training with our blended learning training.
The First Aid Responder will possess the following general skills. The ability to:
Deal with life threatening or potentially life-threatening conditions in the pre-hospital environment until arrival of emergency medical services.
Provide First Aid Response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.
Provide pre-hospital First Aid Response in a wide range of environments including home, recreational and workplace settings.
Display the requisite personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations.
