Using Storytelling to Support Learning in the Early Years

Stories are at the heart of how young children make sense of the world. In early years settings, storytelling has the power to build language, strengthen relationships, support emotional wellbeing, and foster a strong sense of identity and belonging.

This practice-focused CPD webinar supports early childhood educators to use storytelling as a meaningful, everyday pedagogy, fully aligned with Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework. Designed for educators working with children aged 3–6, the session moves beyond theory and focuses on practical strategies that can be implemented immediately.

Participants will explore how to embed storytelling naturally into play, routines, and daily interactions, support children as active co-storytellers, and enhance learning across Aistear’s four themes: Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating, and Exploring and Thinking.

Educators will leave the webinar feeling confident and inspired, with clear Aistear-linked practice ideas and a ready-to-use, practice-based toolkit. This includes nursery rhymes, oral stories, interactive storytelling ideas, and creative tuff tray provocations that can be adapted across a range of early years settings.

This webinar is ideal for educators seeking engaging, practical CPD that strengthens everyday practice and places children’s stories and language development at the centre of their ongoing every day learning.
