Course Content

  • Understanding Active Supervision Principles: Educate participants on the key principles of active supervision, including attentiveness, engagement, proximity and consistency to ensure children's safety and well-being. 
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Recognition: Provide guidance on conducting risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing proactive strategies to create safe and secure environments for children during supervised activities. 
  • Effective Supervision Strategies: Equip participants with effective supervision strategies, such as scanning techniques, behaviour redirection, group management skills and emergency response procedures to address different supervision scenarios. 
  • Promoting Positive Behaviour and Engagement: Discuss ways to promote positive behaviour, encourage active participation and engage children in meaningful activities during supervised play and learning experiences. 
  • Collaboration with Colleagues and Parents: Emphasize the importance of teamwork among staff members, effective communication with colleagues and collaboration with parents to ensure consistent and coordinated supervision practices across settings. 
Continuous Monitoring and Reflection: Encourage participants to engage in ongoing monitoring, reflection and evaluation of their supervision practices to identify areas for improvement, enhance child safety and optimize learning opportunities 


Tutor

Nicola Erasmus originally hails from South Africa and moved to Ireland 22 years ago. Nicola owns and manages Inspire Child Development Centre - an early intervention pre-school in Naas, County Kildare, alongside a Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service. Nicola has worked in the early years sector, both community and private, including having had her own early years service for 6 years. Nicola has expertise in all facets of early years, from HR to Management, Child Behaviour, Autism, Sensory Processing, Compliance and Quality. Nicola thoroughly enjoys sharing and discussing all aspects of early years with other practitioners through this  training platform with Canavan Byrne. 
One of the main responsibilities of an EY Educator is to encourage children to explore and try new things and to actively supervise those activities, to help prevent any serious injuries. This webinar will help participants understand the key principles of active supervision and effective supervision strategies.
