The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on pre-school education. Central to the Reggio philosophy is the image of the child as being 'rich in potential, strong, powerful and competent. The three cores principles of the educational approach of Reggio Emilia are:
  • The child
  • The environment
  • The teacher

Also, the Reggio Emilia philosophy is based upon another set of principles:
  • Children must have some control over the direction of their learning
  • Children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearing
  • Children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the world that they must be allowed to   explore
  • Children must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves

The webinar is presented through PowerPoint, which demonstrates all the different educational projects that I have done with children, whilst I worked in one of the Reggio Emilia co-operative nurseries.

The key aims of the presentation are:
  • History and context of the educational approach of Reggio Emilia
  • The learning environment as the "third educator" (space, time and relationships)
  • Observation and documentation
  • Promoting creativity
  • Learning through project work (for example, shadows, exploring the clay, light table and so on)
