The latest implementation plan for 'First 5' is a ten-year strategy set up by the government for babies, young children and their families. This plan was first launched in 2019 and covers the period up to 2028.
The new implementation plan outlines the steps that will be taken between 2023 and 2025 to ensure that children receive the best possible start in life. The central aim is to provide a platform to realise the rights of children and young people in Ireland so that all partners can work effectively together to ensure children and young people can thrive. First 5 will continue to take a more focused approach on actions relating to the period of early childhood. There will be 125 actions delivered across 10 government departments, the HSE, and Tusla, along with 31 delivery partners. Each action will have a defined 2025 output and a clear schedule of annual milestones. The First 5 Implementation Office will monitor progress on these milestones and an annual report will be provided.
