Canavan Byrne will visit your service and carry out a comprehensive risk assessment of the Building and Operations to identify any potential risks and to ensure there are proper controls in place.

All services must take account of the General Principles of Prevention as contained in Schedule 3 of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 manage risk by having strong policies and procedures, avoiding and combating risk and adapting the workplace if needed.

Early Years Services have the added responsibility as set out in the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years services) Regulations 2016 and the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) (Registration of School Age Services) Regulations 2018 to manage potential dangers to children as well as adults in their settings. Therefore, it is essential that whoever carries out the risk assessment is knowledgeable about the health and safety requirements of this sector.

A Risk Assessment is a three-step process:

  1. Identifying the Hazards
    A Hazard is anything that is likely to cause injury such as chemical substances
  2. Assessing the Risks
    A Risk is the chance that someone will be harmed by the Hazard
  3. Putting Control Measures in place
    Control Measures are the steps we take to remove the Hazards
